Spanish Eyes comes with a single crappy sounding chime that sounds for only 100s and 1000s scores. Once i got the machine up and running I was dead set on replacing that unit with a beautiful sounding 70s era Gottlieb 3-bar chime unit. It took a bit of doing, but I managed to put the final touches on it last night and the machine sounds AWESOME now. Here’s what I did:

For 100s and 1000s chimes, I replaced the chime switch wiring on the 100 and 1000 point relays with the new wires to the Gottlieb chime. (turquoise and blue wires above). The 10s were a bit trickier because the 10 point relay didn’t have a switch for chimes, so instead I removed the wiring to the (already disconnected) match unit and replaced it with the wire to the new chime.
In the cabinet, I left the old chime alone but removed the power to that chime solenoid and ran it to the new chime.
At some point i’ll have to deal with the 10s chime properly because i plan to put the match unit back into the mix, but the previous owner had already disconnected it so i took the opportunity to use that (currently) non-functioning switch for the chime. Also need to clean up and secure the wiring better.
Overall, i’m so happy i did this. Absolutely worth the time, money, and effort.
