Got some time over the last couple of days to work on the pins. Finally got the Surf Champ spinner fixed by using an old off brand spinner and applying new decals. I wet sanded the spinner very smooth before putting on the stickers – hopefully these stay on nicely and last.

As for Space Mission, i tried buffing it out again to see if the clear had cured but the results were similar. I realized I need a proper rotary polishing/detailing tool – mine just isn’t up the task. I plan on waiting a few weeks and trying with a better tool.
I also thoroughly vacuumed out the cabinet and cleaned and rebuilt the chime unit. I wish i had proper “before” photos because it was pretty filthy and the previous owner had wrapped electrical tape all over them to try and dampen the chimes. The old spacers were all completely disintegrated. A few parts got thrown in the tumbler with a bunch of playfield switches, the rest i cleaned by hand. Used a rebuild kit from PBR to replace the spacers and coil sleeves and whatnot. It’s looking good. Pretty much everything else is on hold for this machine until the playfield is done.
I’m going to finish tearing down Shadow next. I’m going to try and make fairly quick work with cleaning it and fixing the sanctum. It’s going to be hard not to get sucked in — there’s so much satisfaction in making them look amazing but there is SO MUCH metal that will need to be regrained and polished on that machine. We will see. I really just want to get it playable again.
