  • Finding the screw holes

    Finding the screw holes

I found all the through holes using a flashlight under the playfield, but now that I’m repopulating I’ve got to find all the screw holes that didn’t go through. Luckily, I’ve found that if I locate the approximate position and press that area with my thumb, I can see a slight dimple where the hole…

  • Taxi: rails and holes

    Taxi: rails and holes

I’ve drilled all the holes that go all the way through the playfield. It was anxious work. Also put on all the black rails. Another long task was fixing all the lamp sockets. Dude who cleared the playfield shot clear into them so many weren’t working. All clean now. I’m going to start populating the…

  • Taxi speaker panel mod

    Taxi speaker panel mod

Speaker panel cut and t nuts back in the right place, everything painted black. I think I’m eventually going to go all the way with this one and put in a crossover and an 8″ woofer for the cab and a separate volume for the backbox. For now just speaker replacement here.

  • Taxi: speaker panel and interconnect board

Taxi: speaker panel and interconnect board

Disassembled the speaker panel to get it ready for replacement speakers on both sides. It’s worth it. Also pulled the interconnect board to fix the GI pins and found a really burnt area under the resistors. Going to fix that too now! Unfortunately this probably means another round of parts to buy but I’m in…

  • Weekend update

    Weekend update

Shifting over to painting again, taking a break from Taxi. All the metal is polished and waxed, but there are some small pieces in the tumbler that I’ll leave running through tonight. I want to test the lighting before I go any further. There’s a GI problem I need to fix and probably some sockets…

  • Taxi: working down the list

    Taxi: working down the list

Checking off Taxi tasks like crazy. From here on out, the job is assembly. Pretty sure i have ALL the parts aside from a few bulbs, rubbers, and post sleeves. I’ll find more stuff i’m missing along the way but it’s so damn exciting to have the end in sight.

  • “just one more thing”

    “just one more thing”

Just one more. Just one more thing. Just this one last thing… 3am.  The pins in the photo mark the through holes that were covered by the overlay. Normally i’d say i have about 5-10 hours left with a machine at this stage but in this case with the new clear coat and overlay obscuring…

  • Taxi metals, polished up

    Taxi metals, polished up

Finished wet sanding all the steel guides for Taxi. Steps: 220 -> green scrubby -> 400 -> 600 -> 800. Some didn’t get all steps (only the worst got 220), but it’s still a lot of elbow grease. Will polish the most visible ones a bit further with Mother’s mag polish but I’m really happy…

  • Nice looking grill

    Nice looking grill

Got a first coat of black on the metal grills and they look real nice. I feel angry about the dude who sprayed crappy clear coat all over this Taxi. Not only did it destroy the playfield but I’ve spent hours and hours cleaning it from metal, switches, coils, etc. Tonight I saw it all…
