  • Schematics!

    Schematics!

I jumped headlong in to learning how to read and use pinball schematics last night. I don’t have any schematics for Big Guns yet so i figured i’d take this opportunity to figure out my Surf Champ problems once and for all.  Thanks again to the awesome community at Pinside, I got some good advice from Nicholas…

  • Yet more Taxi teardown

    Yet more Taxi teardown

Removed the old pop bumper parts. Everything but the metal parts will be replaced. Now the topside is free of obstruction and I can start cleaning it in earnest.

  • Big Guns odds and ends

    Big Guns odds and ends

Addressed a number of small issues on Big Guns. The right outlane has been KILLING me and i realized that i had a too-large rubber on the single post pictured above. Switched it to a smaller black one from Shadow and it makes the game so much better. Other things I did: There is one…

  • More Taxi teardown

    More Taxi teardown

Disconnected a bunch of switches, pulled the kicker and catapult arms, and removed light boards. Getting everything that pokes up above the playfield out of the way. Pop bumpers are the only things left.

  • More block sanding on Space Mission

More block sanding on Space Mission

Knocked down all the raised spots from overfilling valleys. It is hard work, and I’m thankful that I am not doing another round of fills. There are very small imperfections here and there, but in this case with my tools and novice skills I know that perfect will be the enemy of good. Two more…

  • Taxi: hardware sorting

    Taxi: hardware sorting

All the hardware from Taxi. The top set has been tumble polished and cleaned. The bottom set is organized so I can take an inventory and replace most of it. These kinds of tasks take quite a long time.

  • The valleys have all been filled

The valleys have all been filled

I’ll knock down the overfill on Thursday night and then I’m thinking two more roller coats, cut and polish. It’s going to be great. At this point I’m obsessing about the smallest things, but the before and after on the playfield when it’s done is going to be DRAMATIC even though there will be imperfections.…

  • Another roll

    Another roll

Rolled another coat of clear on Space Mission. At this point I’m extremely confident that this is going to turn out well. I still have some valleys to fill, but i think one more dropper round and two more roll coats will do it. It’s already flatter and more perfect than most of the playfields…

  • I’m still sanding

    I’m still sanding

Spent about two hours block sanding this playfield after dropper filling valleys and a coat of clear. It’s NEARLY flat, but i managed to sand off a bit of paint in one area (damn!) but i think it’s mostly hidden during game play so i may just leave that. It’s really tough to get these…
