    “just one more thing”

Just one more. Just one more thing. Just this one last thing… 3am.  The pins in the photo mark the through holes that were covered by the overlay. Normally i’d say i have about 5-10 hours left with a machine at this stage but in this case with the new clear coat and overlay obscuring…

  • Taxi metals, polished up

    Taxi metals, polished up

Finished wet sanding all the steel guides for Taxi. Steps: 220 -> green scrubby -> 400 -> 600 -> 800. Some didn’t get all steps (only the worst got 220), but it’s still a lot of elbow grease. Will polish the most visible ones a bit further with Mother’s mag polish but I’m really happy…

  • Nice looking grill

    Nice looking grill

Got a first coat of black on the metal grills and they look real nice. I feel angry about the dude who sprayed crappy clear coat all over this Taxi. Not only did it destroy the playfield but I’ve spent hours and hours cleaning it from metal, switches, coils, etc. Tonight I saw it all…

  • I don’t enjoy polishing metal

    I don’t enjoy polishing metal

Something about polishing metal like this annoys me, but it sure looks good. These will still get hit with mother’s, then waxed. Waxed the playfield three times too while I was doing these. Lots more metal to go.

  • Taxi restore: It’s all over under there

Taxi restore: It’s all over under there

The underside of the playfield is 99% complete. All the mechs are in and wires soldered. Gonna clean and wax the playfield before completing the flipper installation. I’ve taken this machine further than any other restore so far, though I won’t be doing much to the outside of the cabinet even though it’s a bit…

  • Microswitch nightmares

    Microswitch nightmares

Took me 45 minutes to reinstall two microswitches on Taxi tonight. Actually, it took me 40 minutes to install one microswitch and 5 for the other. Hopefully the other 6 go faster!

  • New Funhouse shooters

    New Funhouse shooters

Replaced everything but the plates on both Funhouse shooters – the existing stuff was super gummed up and the left rod looked like a soccer ball. Now both shooters are consistent and much better aligned.

  • Taxi: under playfield clean-up

    Taxi: under playfield clean-up

I’ve basically cleaned everything under the playfield but the light sockets. Ordered some parts I needed to finish the pops, and in the meantime I’ve been cleaning metal from the cabinet (grills, etc). I’ll actually be repopulating by next week! Also, I love my space.

  • Taxi: Very clean mechs

    Taxi: Very clean mechs

I’ve been taking my time rebuilding most of the mechs on this machine. There are a few more kickers to do that are still under the playfield, and of course the pops, but the big ones are done.  I figured out a solution for finding all the through holes in the playfield that were covered…
