Schematics to the rescue!

Got the new baby monitor for the little one’s room, so i was finally able to get out in the garage and try and get un-depressed about pinball. I ended up having a marathon session out there with mixed results.

Surf Champ is running 100%!!!!!
The good news is that, thanks to Nick’s help and this great tutorial i found online, i was finally able to read and understand the logic flow of the schematics for Surf Champ. It took me longer than it should of thanks to a false positive test early on in the process, but eventually I narrowed the major problem down to a switch on the score motor and fixed it by cleaning the contacts and adjusting the blades. With my newfound confidence I decided to try and fix the other problem where the eject hole was only scoring 4 times instead of 5. This time i pretty quickly diagnosed it thanks to the schematics and got the problem switch clean and adjusted. For the first time since i brought this home, all of the scoring features on the machine work perfectly! There are still a couple of lamp sockets that need replacing but it feels great to have this thing running. Even though it was late I played a few games and it was fun as heck.

Big Guns continues to frustrate
I got some great advice on Pinside about where the problem with my phantom switch actuation was coming from, and i wanted to fix that first but alas, the fuse blowing issue has prevented me from doing much of anything. I have ordered some mini circuit breakers to keep me from blowing a million fuses during troubleshooting. I did get some more good advice about troubleshooting the fuse blow and I’m hopeful I can resolve it, just don’t know if i will be able to before I run out of fuses! I’m frustrated that I am stuck, but hopeful about getting un-stuck.
