  • Shadow ready to wax and reassemble

LED’d under the playfield and in the backbox. Cleaned the entire playfield with naphtha, then cleaned with novus 2 and then wiped down with naphtha again and a dry towel. Playfield looks really good so now it’s time to wax. I’ll be putting some new mylar down in a couple of areas – the sanctum…

  • Blackout yellow drop target bank

    Blackout yellow drop target bank

Fixed the yellow drop target bank on Blackout, which hasn’t been scoring (for single targets) since I got it. Took it apart and cleaned the contacts, now it works great. Pretty much everything in pinball is taking something apart, cleaning it, and putting it back together.  In other news, Chris dropped by and put a…

  • Spanish Eyes Chime Unit Mod

    Spanish Eyes Chime Unit Mod

Spanish Eyes comes with a single crappy sounding chime that sounds for only 100s and 1000s scores. Once i got the machine up and running I was dead set on replacing that unit with a beautiful sounding 70s era Gottlieb 3-bar chime unit. It took a bit of doing, but I managed to put the…

  • Sanctum repair and more

    Sanctum repair and more

Little updates from work I did. I was already planning on getting a new Spanish Eyes backglass because mine has major flaking where each of the bulbs were. The bare lights were distracting me so much during play (after replacing all the bulbs), so today I tried to touch it up and it turned out…

  • Shadow cleaning and sanctum repair

    Shadow cleaning and sanctum repair

I finished tearing down Shadow as far as i was going to go. Vacuumed up the old dust and then cleaned with heavy duty citrus degreaser. Removed the mylar that was over the previous sanctum damage and then cleaned up the damage down to solid wood. Carefully sanded the damaged area to roughen it up…

  • Gottlieb chime unit for Spanish Eyes

Gottlieb chime unit for Spanish Eyes

New (used) Gottlieb chime unit that I’m going to put in Spanish Eyes. The easy part will be changing over the 100s and 1000s to this new chime. I’ll have to do some trickier work to get the 10s firing as this machine doesn’t already have a 10s sound. The reason for doing this is…

  • Staying organized

    Staying organized

A couple of folks have asked how i keep track of everything that needs to be done on these machines. When i started working on Big Guns last year I was so overwhelmed by the number of things i needed to do (tasks, purchases, learning, etc) that i started keeping a Google Drive spreadsheet for…

  • Spanish Eyes complete and fun fun fun

Spanish Eyes complete and fun fun fun

Spent about 20 hours in the last week getting this thing back in working order. It plays like a dream, so happy I made the drive to go get this one.

  • Repopulating and rebuilding Spanish Eyes

    Repopulating and rebuilding Spanish Eyes

Finished rebuilding pops, reinstalled all of the rollover switches and buttons, cleaned the underside of all inserts, and replaced all bulbs under the playfield. The main big thing left to do is replace the flipper coils and rebuild the flippers. I should finish this weekend or shortly after, it always takes longer than I think…
