Playing great pins and adding to my wishlist

I really enjoyed playing these games and more at Chris’ friend Rob’s house tonight. He has a huge collection of rare and delightful pins from woodrails to newish Sterns and 90s DMDs. Lots or rare stuff and everything in perfect condition. What a treat to play there tonight. I’ve decided my new holy grail of…

  • Big Guns fixes

Finally fixed a real stinker of a problem on Big Guns with the help of a friendly pinsider. Game is finally fun to play, but the left kicker doesn’t kick (still hunting that problem down). Spent some time playing and rescued the Queen for the first time and got to enter my name. Fun.

    New pin: Spanish Eyes

So happy to have this machine. Drove all the way to a town North of Milwaukee to get it and overpaid a bit, but it’s worth it to me. There is a lot of work to do to get this thing playing right, but i think it will probably only take a couple of weeks…

  • Good work day with E

    Good work day with E

Today some great pinball things happened. My oldest came out and worked on Big Guns with me for almost three hours. He enjoys soldering and has done a number of small electronics projects on his own, but this was the first time he’s worked with me on pinball. It was a blast. He is much…

  • EM odds and ends

    EM odds and ends

Got some time over the last couple of days to work on the pins. Finally got the Surf Champ spinner fixed by using an old off brand spinner and applying new decals. I wet sanded the spinner very smooth before putting on the stickers – hopefully these stay on nicely and last. As for Space…

  • Big Guns: frustrations

    Big Guns: frustrations

More work with terrible results. I’m about ready to light this machine on fire and watch it burn. Made a new wire ball guide replacement for the top of the playfield (which turned out good). Replaced left side switches for the eject hole and cannon. Fixed a couple of broken solder joints for the guard…

  • Parts from Marco

    Parts from Marco

I now have the parts to make Big Guns work. New microswitches, diodes, fuses, board parts, wire for ball guides, new coils for the kickers because one was bad and the other not the right coil which I only realized when looking up the replacement part for the broken one that was not labeled. Excited…

  • Space Mission playfield: wet sand, cut, and polish!

Space Mission playfield: wet sand, cut, and polish!

Wet sanded clear coat at 600/800/1000/1200/1500/2000. Then a medium cut with a rotary buffer followed by swirl remover. Looks pretty remarkable, but I’ve got to wait for a couple weeks because it doesn’t appear to have fully cured yet. I am chomping at the bit to put this back together!

  • Big Guns and Taxi work

    Big Guns and Taxi work

Still troubleshooting Big Guns. Getting some good help from Pinside on that but it’s terribly slow going and I feel confused about everything. In the meantime I got some LED strips from Comet that I plan to place under the cannon plastics in Big Guns to help light that area and the upper part of…
