Wet sanding, cabinet grills, speaker
Wet sanded and cleaned the outside of the Big Guns cabinet to prepare for spraying yellow. Sorted through the stencils and they look good. Decided to start installing lightweight basics back into the cabinet. I was just going to do the grills but decided to throw the speaker in too. It’s starting to look very…

Big Guns: tilt mech & coin door reassembled
The coin door took longer than expected. First I had to clean the wire harness and everything attached to it. I didn’t take very many pictures of the teardown (big mistake), mostly just the finished wiring. It was like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, but I’m confident it’s done correctly. I need to dig up…

Fixing the cabinet floor
Installed the bottom of the cabinet. Glued it in place and screwed in 6 places. I made a couple of mistakes when creating this new panel for the bottom but they are purely cosmetic. It isn’t perfect but it’s good and solid and the imperfections won’t be seen by anyone. Very exciting to get to…

Power box resto

Regrained, buffed, and polished lots of metal for Space Mission, and some for Big Guns. Painted the blue metal arc for Space Mission and unfortunately…

Spraying!
Took advantage of the windless evening and sprayed paint for about three hours. 4 coats gloss black on the cab, gloss black on the transformer, and 3 coats textured black on the coin door. At the rate I’m progressing I should have the cabinet stencils painted and the cab reassembled in 2-3 weeks. Exciting!

Big Guns cabinet paint prep
I ended up spray priming the cabinet last night, but there were a couple places that I filled with putty and forgot to sand down, so I finished sanding those spots out and would have finished priming too if it weren’t for the heavy mist outside. I sanded out the coin door parts and nailed…

Yet more playfield prep
Yesterday I decided that with all the touch ups I did, I really need to seal the playfield. I figured out what my approach is going to be, but i needed to strip down the rest of the playfield so it is completely bare. So every switch and pin that protruded from the playfield was…
